- 5 tablespoons butter
- 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (divided)
- 2 1/4 cups beef broth (divided)
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1/3 cup flour
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the sliced onions, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1/4 cup of beef broth to the skillet.
- Cook the onions for 6-7 minutes until they are soft and golden.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix the beef mixture until well combined and shape into 5 patties.
- Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4 minutes on each side.
- Remove the patties and stir the onions, adding flour and cooking for one minute.
- Slowly add the remaining beef broth, stirring and scraping the pan.
- Return the patties to the pan and top each with provolone cheese.
- Cover and simmer for 6-8 minutes until cheese melts and gravy thickens.
Notes
Feel free to make ahead and store in the fridge. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
