Description

A cozy comfort food delight featuring savory flavors of caramelized onions and creamy cheese, perfect for an easy weeknight dinner.


Ingredients

  • 5 tablespoons butter
  • 2 medium yellow onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce (divided)
  • 2 1/4 cups beef broth (divided)
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1/3 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, and 1/4 cup of beef broth to the skillet.
  3. Cook the onions for 6-7 minutes until they are soft and golden.
  4. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, egg, 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix the beef mixture until well combined and shape into 5 patties.
  6. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for 4 minutes on each side.
  7. Remove the patties and stir the onions, adding flour and cooking for one minute.
  8. Slowly add the remaining beef broth, stirring and scraping the pan.
  9. Return the patties to the pan and top each with provolone cheese.
  10. Cover and simmer for 6-8 minutes until cheese melts and gravy thickens.

Notes

Feel free to make ahead and store in the fridge. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
