Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another bowl.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
- Evenly divide the batter between the prepared pans, smoothing the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the powdered sugar and orange extract until stiff peaks form.
- Spread frosting between the cake layers and on top once cooled.
- Decorate with fresh orange slices.
