Description

A healthy twist on classic burgers with tender cabbage leaves enveloping a savory filling of ground beef or turkey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 small head Cabbage (cut into thick slices)
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (for brushing)
  • 1 pound Ground Beef or Turkey (or ground chicken or plant-based options)
  • 1 medium Onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 large Egg (optional, for binding)
  • 1 cup Cheese (for sprinkling on top)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Slice the cabbage into thick slices, about 1-1.5 inches thick.
  3. Brush each cabbage slice lightly with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Arrange them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Combine in a large bowl the ground beef or turkey, chopped onion, minced garlic, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, and remaining salt and pepper. If using, add the egg.
  5. Mix until well incorporated, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  6. Form patties from the meat mixture and place them on top of the cabbage slices, pressing them gently.
  7. Sprinkle cheese on top of each patty.
  8. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until cooked through and the cabbage is tender.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving warm.
