- 340 g powdered sugar (sifted)
- 12 oz cream cheese (cold)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- Combine the flour, dark brown sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, and cloves in a large mixing bowl.
- Cream the unsalted butter and neutral oil in another bowl until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
- Add the brown sugar mixture to the butter and oil mixture, mixing until well combined.
- Pour in the milk, add the eggs, and stir in the vanilla extract, then mix until creamy and slightly thick.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together unsalted butter and cold cream cheese until smooth, then gradually add sifted powdered sugar.
- Layer the cooled cakes with cream cheese frosting and cover the outside with remaining frosting; decorate with additional spices if desired.
