- 4 large russet potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, gouda)
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 cups milk
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking dish.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in the flour, cooking for another minute. Gradually whisk in the milk and sour cream, cooking until the mixture thickens.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the shredded cheeses until they melt into a rich and creamy sauce.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in your greased baking dish, sprinkling them with salt and pepper, then pour half of the cheese sauce over them.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes and sauce, finishing with the cheese sauce on top.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
- Let the dish cool slightly before serving, garnishing with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
This dish can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Reheat in the oven before serving.
