- 2 cups sourdough starter
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Combine the sourdough starter, warm water, sugar, and olive oil in a large bowl. Mix well until all the ingredients are blended.
- Whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt in another bowl.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 5-10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 4-6 hours or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) as the dough rises.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
- Let it rise for another hour.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
- Allow to cool before slicing.
Notes
For a nutty version, add 1/2 cup of crushed walnuts or pecans. Use a serrated knife for slicing to maintain the loaf’s shape.
