Description

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk, warmed
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sugar mixed with 1 tablespoon cinnamon (cinnamon sugar)
  • 8 oz cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, yeast, and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Mix together the buttermilk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla extract in another bowl.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Roll the dough into a large rectangle, spread with melted butter, and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
  6. Roll the dough tightly and cut it into individual rolls.
  7. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rise until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
  8. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract together until smooth.
  10. Top the slightly cooled rolls with the cream cheese frosting generously.

Notes

These rolls can be prepared the night before. Bake them fresh in the morning for a quick breakfast treat.
