Description
A heartwarming apple pie recipe that fills your home with comforting aromas and creates unforgettable memories.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Perfect Pie Crust Recipe
- ¼ cup butter
- 8 cups thinly sliced apples (peeled and cored)
- 2/3 cup lightly packed brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon water
- Coarse sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Melt the butter in a large pot over medium-low heat. Add the sliced apples, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt. Stir and cook for 8-10 minutes until apples soften. Set aside to cool.
- Roll out one disc of pie dough to fit the pie plate. Transfer it into the plate, gently pressing it into the bottom and sides.
- Whisk the egg and water in a small bowl for the egg wash until combined.
- Fill the crust with the cooled apple mixture, creating a beautiful mound. Roll out the second disc of dough to cover the top, or cut it into strips for a lattice pattern.
- Seal the edges of the pie crust together by crimping or pressing with a fork, then brush the top with egg wash. Sprinkle with coarse sugar if desired.
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 40 minutes until the pie is golden brown and bubbly.
- Allow the pie to cool before serving, so it sets beautifully and is easier to slice.
Notes
