Description

Deliciously fluffy cinnamon rolls filled with creamy pumpkin butter and warm spices, perfect for a cozy fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk, warmed
  • 2 1/4 tsp instant yeast (one yeast packet)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 4 – 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter, softened (for filling)
  • 1/2 cup – 2/3 cup pumpkin butter
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for frosting)
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 3 tbsp milk (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, combine the melted butter, warm buttermilk, instant yeast, granulated sugar, salt, and vanilla extract. Whisk until blended. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  2. Add the flour: Gradually add 4 cups of flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is sticky, add more flour one tablespoon at a time. Knead for 5 to 7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. First rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 60 minutes.
  4. Make the filling: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, pumpkin butter, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice together until well combined. Set aside.
  5. Shape the rolls: After the dough has risen, roll it out into a 16×24 inch rectangle on a floured surface. Spread the pumpkin filling evenly across the dough, leaving a small border around the edges.
  6. Roll and cut: Roll the dough tightly from the long edge and cut it into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish, leaving a little space between each one.
  7. Second rise: Cover the rolls with a towel and let them rise in a warm spot until puffy, about 30 minutes.
  8. Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and fragrant.
  9. Prepare the frosting: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the softened butter, maple syrup, milk, brown sugar, and powdered sugar until creamy and smooth.
  10. Frost and serve: Once the rolls have cooled slightly, drizzle the maple frosting generously over the top and serve warm.

Notes

You can prepare the rolls the night before and refrigerate them. Use unflavored dental floss to slice the rolls cleanly.
